Even on a 720p projector the quality is much better than the most expensive HMD on the market. But the SDE in hmd's is also one obstacle not yet beaten. Nothing beats VR when it comes to immersion. The quality is far more superior! You'd be surprised. You might change your opinion once you see this on a 120" 3d projector.
